2016 Hamvention

This past weekend the Valpo SatNOGS team took Hamvention by storm.  Hamvention in Dayton, OH is the largest gathering of Ham radio operators in the world.  Our team with Corey Shields showed off the SatNOGS ground station.  We had the opportunity to  meet a variety of new people and were able to spread interest to a lot of people all at once.  The convention started Friday with Corey giving a talk at the TAPR forum.  This seemed to spark intrigue with project because the booth became very busy after the forum let out.  Friday night we went to the TAPR/AMSAT banquet.  The most interesting part of the banquet for me was the variety of people we met.  The table we sat at had engineers, machinist and teachers.  There is very few places that you can see so many professions. This was evident Saturday when we got to meet someone from hackaday.   Hamvention was a great success for our group because it gave us great connections and hopefully inspired new people to start building ground stations and also gave the student motivation to go get our ham radio licenses.
